How to submit or change a bank account number (2024)

How you submit or change a bank account number depends on the purpose for submitting or changing it.

In most cases, you can submit or change a bank account number online.

Why do we sometimes ask you to submit your bank account number?

For example, if you are due to receive a refund from us.

Why do we ask you to provide your bank account number again?

We may ask you to provide your bank account number a second time because we are not allowed to use the bank account number we have for you on record. For example, when you receive a tax refund for the first time. Or because a tax refund has not been paid into the bank account number we hold for you for 36 months or more. This ensures that the money reaches the right person and is paid into the right bank account.

We only check a bank account number when you receive a refund from us, not when you make a payment to us.

Please note

If you have a new bank account number and use your bank's Overstapservice (Bank Account Switch Service) we do not automatically update our records. Youstill must change your bank account number with us yourself.
